Victim of Hidden Cameras Awarded Compensation

The use of hidden cameras, by voyeurs to covertly film victims, sadly seem to be increasing. We have been attempting to warn organisations in the UK about this privacy compromising threat for sometime. There seems a reluctance to tackle the issue and to adequately assess the risks posed and to mitigate them.

A man who filmed a woman naked using hidden cameras and posted images online has been ordered to pay her almost £100,000 in compensation, in what is thought to be a legal first.

Stuart Gaunt set up a microscopic camera in a bathroom and covertly filmed the victim while she was naked, before uploading images on to a pornographic website next to a photograph of her face so she could be recognised.

The victim also uncovered evidence which led her to believe he made money from the image-based abuse – commonly referred to as revenge porn.
